Sidi Kaouki takes advantage of a nice exhibition and captures a lot of swell during the winter in Morocco. Therefore, Sidi Kaouki is a good destination for a surf trip in Morocco. The Cape Sim offers a southern exposure and the central bay of the village is exposed west. As a result, you will often have surfable waves in the area. Cap Sim, the best known surf spot near Essaouira
Cap Sim also called, Cave. Is the most famous surf spot around. The must stop if you are on a surf trip to Sidi Kaouki in Morocco. Indeed, it is a high quality straight that breaks over a slab of rock for hundreds of meters. It's a rather difficult wave to access because of the cliff and the Coralligenous reef. That's why we recommend you to go there only if you have a advanced surfing level. If you are a beginner or intermediate surfer, we advise you to stay in the bay or go to the crown to avoid the risk of having an accident.
Cap Sim is a powerful wave with a barrel section at first. The take-off is done in the reef, you have to be careful... But then, it goes on endlessly, if the conditions allow it.
It is recommended to go there when there is enough swell: 1,5m +
Access is via a bad road, either by car (the shock absorbers will remember it) or on foot or by donkey.
La Couronne, a good alternative for surfing in Sidi Kaouki
The crown is located just below Cap Sim (The cave). The exposure is almost south. Therefore, if the wind comes from the north, you will be quite well protected there, just like at the cave. The wave is simpler than Cap Sim and suitable for intermediate level surfers and advanced. La Couronne is a much less committed wave than Cap Sim. Access is via the same track.
The wave in the center of the village
Another possible option if you want to go surfing in Sidi Kaouki. It's to surf the wave village center opposite restaurants and surf and kite surf schools. It is on one side a beach break easy. And on the other there is a small A frame, a left and a right which unrolls on a slab of rock. These waves are perfect for all levels of surfers. Whether you are a beginner or advanced level surfer, you can have fun.
Ideal conditions: 1m swell and no wind
The wave of the wadi south of Sidi Kaouki
This surf spot is located south of Sidi Kaouki beach (see on the map). It's a wave coming out of a wadi, An river. If the weather conditions are good, you will find a very nice A-frame that unrolls left and right on a slab of rock. The wave is suitable for all levels of surfing if the swell is obviously not powerful. If you are a beginner surfer and want to surf in Sidi Kaouki, this may be a good option for you.
When to go surfing in Sidi Kaouki?
If you want to go on a surf trip to Sidi Kaouki south of Essaouira in Morocco. So the best period is obviously during the winter, from November to March. With a peak of swell during the months of January and February. This of course depends on the weather conditions and differs from year to year.
